jobbie jobs

Theres a little game I like to play called "How many jobs can Cori have?" Sure, I've been complaining about working too much, but what's one more job? Anyway, I've sorta been offered a temp job, 6 weeks, $12/hr, doing photoshop and data entry website work for an online wine distributor. It sounds awesome, pays better than the other 2 jobs and is more along the lines of what I want to be doing, photo editing/photoshop/post production work. So far I have no info about what the hours are, whether its part time/flexible or full time. I am determined to do it either way, but I'm not sure if i will be able to swing it. I guess I'll jsut have to wait and talk to my bosses when I get more info. i probably won't hear back from the temp people until Monday, so I have all weekend to stress about it.
Well, thanks to Ransom my bike dilemma has been resolved. He said "Don't put money into that bike!" or something along those lines. So I called the bike guys at Second Ascent and re-negotiated. The guy I talked to this time was VERY helpful, he said that its not really necessary to replace the rims and stuff, but he will do a good thorough tune-up, and things should work much better for more like $30, which is way way better than $150. This way I can still ride it and not die, since my commute is quite short anyway, and I probably won't ride in the rain too much. (which means, in Seattle, i may never ride....) But that was a big relief. And I don't have to butcher my bike. Thanks, Ransom! I just really needed someone to tell me not to do it. I'll be saving my pennies for a Bianchi.......
On a random note, I'm totally addicted to the new album by the Eagles of Death Metal. I <3 it times a million, and I really <3 this pic:

tee hee.....i think he's got to go.......
but seriously, no other guy looks quite that good in those glasses and that mustache.....and those PANTS!

Bike dilemma

I dropped off my Panasonic tourist bicycle at the shop yesterday. I am having second thoughts.......the bike guy pretty much thought I was crazy to even bother putting money into it, and said it wouldn't make that much of a difference. basically, he's going to give it a tune up, put on a new back rim and gear hub so the brakes will work better and the gears will shift better. but it's all going to be about $150. Now I feel weird about it, and if I change my mind I could probably call and stop 'em before they do it. But I can't decide. I don't know if I could get a better bike for $150, and I like this crappy old bicycle. I mean, it's a Panasonic Tourist, how cool is that? and I just want the brakes to work so I can ride to work without crashing. Is that too much to ask? but I'm replacing it's original steel rims, (because brakes don't work on them) and I feel like I'm butchering it or something. Not that its worth anything, even "all original" but i'm some sort of sick purist.
This is the bike I would buy if I had a lot of money: The Bianchi Bergamo. and I would buy a Burley Cub bike trailer to tow with my Bianchi Bergamo. and then I would put Rosie in my trailer and ride across the US on the Transamerica Trail!

Daydreaming Escape Plans

Today I was having strong runaway urges. When i told anatomist we began to formulate a plan. it started with leaving tonight for mexico. i was going to pack us some lunches and we were going to have to stop at my parent's house in eugene to pick up my tent. Then we decided we would have to stop in Portland to kidnap Pulpshopgirl and in Eugene to kidnap Sierra as well. We reasoned that we would need more tents, but then realized that when we kidnapped Pulpshopgirl we could also steal her truck and trailer. I decided anatomist had better leave work early, but she couldn't get out of downtown because there was a protest. She said I would have to steal a helicopter. So I stole a chopper and picked her up on the roof of her office building. We choppered to Portland, where we landed in Pulpshopgirl's yard.

good news, and badly finished bikini top

yay! Pulpshopgirl finally posted her big news.... Looks like Luke is gonna make an honest woman out of her! So next summer two of my bestest girlfriends are getting hitched. Pulpshopgirl, and anatomist. I've never been in a wedding before, and now I'll be in two. I'll be dropping duckets on bridesmaids dresses, shower presents, wedding presents...... And, since I'm special, I get to be the maid of honor for Pulpshopgirl! Which also means I get to plan the bachelorette party.....hmmmmm, it may be a ways away still, but the gears in my head are already grinding. I'm really excited, 'cause these boys my girls managed to find are actually deserving of them. and that is saying a whole hell of a lot, coming from me in reference to these girls. The funniest part though was the way Pulpshopgirl broke the news to me, she started with "I have to tell you something, but don't be mad....." I'm not mad! Though it's definitely a trip, in the abstract sense. Wha...? you're getting MARRIED?

I got an e-mail the other day from Kungfuramone about how excited 20 year old me is right now about me wrestling.....it got me thinking, what would we have thought 5 years ago if we could have a glimpse of where we are now? would we be excited about our future lives, or horrified? disappointed?

and now for the sad part.
I've been working on this bikini top for what feels like ages, thought its really been about two weeks. But i really messed it up. trust me, it looks a lot better off than on.

the triangle parts are fine on their own, but I messed up in attaching them to the string that ties in the back. I think i could fix it, but i can't figure out how to get the crocheted attachment part to unattach........ugh. oh, the frustration! but now I know, and I think I know to modify the pattern to make it different and better. But I may just have to start the whole thing over again. And this is only half the bikini! ARGH!

yay for bluetooth technology

every once in awhile i take steps to utilize the technology i know i am capable of using but do not take advantage of. sometimes its after a few drinks. well, how bout that bluetooth? I am familiar and quite fond of wireless internet. but i just hooked up my new phone to my lap top with this whole bluetooth thing. Cool. My phone is just sitting there, and i can access it with magical invisibleness.
tonight i played games with some really fun people. we played apples to apples. i like the theory where the cards you win reflect your personality. these were mine:

I think they're appropriately contradictory.

today was my sixth day in a row at work. this week has been crazy, for lots of non work reasons, but also because of too much work. the crazy work part has been the bosses being out of town, and all the machines breaking. murphy's law and such. today i managed to get some chemicals on my watch which then got on my wrist, and i had some sort of allergic reaction. after all my years of working with photo chemistry, i've never had this happen. lucky for me, my coworker often has her young son at work and she happened to have some desinex (somethign like that) diaper cream on hand. it was soothing, but i smelled like baby but for the rest of the day. and it got white marks on my shirt that looked like those "embarrasing" deodorant marks the commercials try to make you live in fear of.

i am shaking my diaper rash cream smeared chemically burned wrist and blazing fist of fury at the chemical spilling machine after unclogging it's second paper jam.

and this is what i stare at most of the day. i decorated the penholder myself, btw.

well Pulpshopgirl has some big news that i wish she would hurry up and post about so i could start flapping my yap about it too, but I guess that post will just have to wait.

beautiful blender

I <3 my new blender.

i got it on sale, which only makes me <3 it more.

i'm a team player

We had our first wrestling meeting today. at least it was the first one for me. Kamaria and I figured out a name for our team, we're the Pop Roxxx! we're going for a pop star theme, Tom is going to be our manager/father. we've got lots of good ideas for outfits and makeup and whatnot, we just have to think up some really good pop princess names. Evilcat thought of Britney FearMe and Christina Agony.....so something along those lines. But we're shooting for sister names, I just can't think of any good rip-offs of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, and Britney and Jamie Lynn FearMe doesn't work because with two it becomes plural, and FearUs sounds kind weird, yadda yadda..... But I'm really really excited about wrestling, and every week we get to meet up with some people from Seattle Semi-Pro! They're going to help us train. How cool is THAT?

now back to crafts, today I framed the little embroidered birdie anatomist gave me!

Finally Felted Footies!

Last night I felted my slippers!

There they are. I was wearing them while they were wet so they could form to my feet, hence the plastic bags. Look! They fit!

Had a fabulous time at April Fool's Dinner at anatomist's this evening.

I think this picture deserves more than a thousand words. But i'm too tired to think of that many.

Getting Older

There are many things that start to happen that make you realize you're getting older. You know, weddings, babies, buying houses, discussing finances and investments. Tonight it just sort of hit home when I was in bed reading, and I realized that my bedtime reading is "The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner" by David Bach, the chapter is on mortgages, and I am FASCINATED. I'm not really sure if this makes me old, or lame, or just twisted. But whatever it is, I'm totally ok with it.

Ladies Litre Nite @ Prost

Tonight was ladies litre night at prost, and it far exceeded my expectations. i would elaborate, but I drank 2 litres of beer and realy need to goto bed. While at the bar, i finished this scarf. I'm pretty proud of myself for a few reasons, #1, I knit and drank litres at the same time. being a big fan of multi-tasking, this is an acomplishment. #2 I finished a knitting project at the bar. ok, so i still haven't technically finsihed, I need to weave in the ends, but it was finished enough to wear home.

and because knitting is funny on rosie, here's a good shot. i don't think she approves.....

HUGE slipper # 2

Here are my giant slippers! The second one is just as big as the first. I think they will shrink to fit, I have faith in the felting!

turns out they might work as a doggie ski mask as well, maybe I'll put in some eye holes.....

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

It's HUGE!

I finished slipper # 1.......it's the same pattern of the slippers andie made....she gave me the pattern. I sure hope it shrinks A LOT when it's felted. I'm going to assume that is the case and make # 2 before I go and felt 'em. If it turns out that they're just huge, maybe they can hang out with Pulpshopgirl's giant mitten.

orange couch

there it is, in all its orange glory. It's a little bit blotchy in some parts, my fault for not agitating enough on the later batches. I got a little bored with it.......But all in all it's quite lovely. it's funny really, it's exactly the same orange as my orange sheets.

TWO legwarmers!

and a Rosie face.

I get SO much done while watching Buffy! In 2 days I have finished 2 projects that have been unfinished for too long.

Project Day!

I took Rosie for a walk this lovely afternoon, we went to the Wooly Monkey knit shop that is only 10 blocks from home. Today was the last day of their big sale, but unfortunately they may be closing! She's selling the shop. Anyone want to give me a bunch of money to buy a yarn store?

Now i am spending the rest of the afternoon dyeing my couch cushion covers! ORANGE! I can only do two at a time, and they have to dye for an hour, so its taking awhile. but I sure am excited about it! They'll look nice with my bright pink couch blanket. I've been wearing gloves, but i've been agitating the fabric with my hands and the dye leaks in. i'm getting a bit of Oompa-loompa hand. I'm using Dylon, "Burnt Orange." The color on the packet is lighter, but they're looking pretty bright! I am following the directions PRETTY well, but I didn't have enough salt. I hope that that isn't going to make it less permanent or something. I'm still adding a little, but about 1/4th of what they recommend. Oh well, we'll see!

Late last night while watching some Buffy the Vampire Slayer I finally finished my plastic bag bag! It's pretty ugly, but so derelicte! I think I'll try stripes on the next one.

knitting in the BATH?

That's right, I tried it. Pulpshopgirl inspired me to work on my plastic bag bag, because she finished hers. I've been working on mine for ages, (see pic of craft night about one month ago)

and I still haven't finished. I really wanted to take a bath, because I worked for 11 hours today and it sounded real nice. But I also wanted to knit, I figured heck, it's plastic. It worked ok, but since my fingers were wet it was kind of sticky and slow going. Maybe knitting and baths are two great things that aren't so great together. Now it's time for a movie and knitting in bed! also a delicious nutritious dinner of popcorn.
I think it is also time for a picture of Khya, just because I can. I even left the red eye intact, i think it adds to the overall effect. The video of her singing along to the BeeGees while thus adorned is even better. but the still photo will suffice.

Oh Yeah Baybee!

New episode of The OC tonight! I am so happy that Ryan and Marissa finally broke up, though I can't believe it happened OVER THE PHONE! Jeez, thats pretty lame even for them. I'm still really happy that Ryan finally got a haircut too. It doesn't take much to make me happy, does it?

Smoking ice cream!

I had so much fun with my Pop! He gets here and starts fixin' things. He fixed my gate, so it no longer scrapes, actually latches, and now has a conveniently grab-able knob! Yay! we also bark-a-mulched my yard. It's lookin' pretty sweet.

We did go to REI, and I bought the aforementioned coveted Chaco's. I used my 20% off coupon, my REI dividend, and got out of sales tax with my OR drivers license. So, i got an AWESOME deal on my AWESOME pink Chaco's.

Then we ate lunch in the Space Needle! We got a free desert for filling out a questionnaire thingy. I don't remember what it was called, but it was SMOKIN"!

hat and revived scarf!

Yay! I re-made the half eaten scarf. I used bigger needles too, which I think will be better because I didn't have quite as much yarn as a I would have liked. This way it will stretch out more and be longer. So the Rosie attack wasn't such a devestating accident.

Today was my eighth straight day of work. But now I have 2 days off! In a ROW! very exciting. My dad is visiting so we might go out on the town. Who knows, maybe hit up the giant REI. I've got my little dividend and 20% off coupon, those aforementioned pink chacos are calling my name......

It's hard to type with band-aids on most of your fingers. I was brutally attacked by a slide mounter. They're those nasty ouchies where there's a big old chunk of skin still hanging on. and every once in awhile they decide to start bleeding again. and then there are some mystery injuries too....maybe from my previous battle with the slide mounter. I'm all bruised and battered! and I haven't even started wrestling yet!
Here's a pic of Rosie being cute. I've forgiven her for eating my knitting....I mean, look how cute she is! and she is the LOML, after all.

My Dog ate my Knitting

This what I came home to today.

I think my dog is jealous of my knitting. I think she eats the things I love when she is mad at me. Like when she eats my shoes. I guess now its my knitting.

Love of your Life?

I was talking with my dear friend AL, and she asked me who the Love of my Life is/was...... I ran through the mental list of past relationships and such, and I just don't feell ike any of them stand out as one big special "Love of My Life". then I started thinking about it, and the concept is confusing and makes me kind of sad. What does that mean? Can you have many LOYL's? or none? If you're in a relationship with someone, are they automatically the LOYL? and if they're not, and someone else is/was, what does that mean? If someone from your past is the LOYL, do you need to get over them and find a new one? Is LOYL someone you lost or someone you're with for a long long time? Is there even really a DEFINITION? Anyway, for now I decided my Love is Rosie. and I obviously haven't met anyone worthy of being the LOML.

fruit bath?

I am really excited that tonight there is FINALLY a new episode of The OC. It has just been too long.

I'm sad Daniel didn't win Project Runway, and I still think Santino should design for Deb.

Chaco has some new sandals out this spring! They're real cute.... I want the pink ones of course.

Last but not least, a found image:

What is going on here? Is this possibly a "food as fetish" assignment?

finished hat!

I was rather productive today. i finished a hat for my sis, (but undid the scarf i had started for her)

Anatomist is over, furiously stitching

and I finally got my bookshelf out of my car, into my apartment, and got some books on it!

National Craft Month, bitches!

Pulpshopgirl mentioned that it is National Craft Month! So says The National Craft Association! Pretty exciting. So I think we should justify all our crafting and money spent on said crafting by saying we are celebrating. Also we can say it is part of our celebration of National Women's History Month, the theme of which is "Builders of Communities and Dreams". We're killing two celebration birds with our blogging stones. We have built an online crafting community. Ah, ain't that sweet?

So, today I realized I have a coffee addiction. It's not up to par with Andie's,but yesterday and today I noticed just how significant it is. See, I was raised a good Mormon girl, so in my later years when I started ingesting caffeine I have always been very sensitive to it. Now I seem to be dependent. I didn't have any coffee yesterday, and I was so tired and down all day. I even fell asleep on my lunch break at work. But today I had a cup of coffee in the morning with breakfast, and I was going strong! I even started to clean part of the uncleanable area I work in. I now have a very small clean and tidy oasis in my photo room.

Last, but not least, someone told me once that silver is an antibiotic, and if you ingest too much of it you turn a bluish gray. He also told me it was called Walking Corpse Disease. I decided to look this up. I found that Walking Corpse Disease is something else entirely, though I couldn't find much info about it, it was mentioned as a psychiatric disorder where patients feel they have lost limbs or lost their souls......Anyway, back to the silver! What I did find about silver is that if you ingest too much of it you do turn gray. But it doesn't have as cool a name as Walking Corpse Disease. It's called Argryia. Check this out:

EW! So don't be drinking photo fixer and be careful with colloidal silver.

i posted....

i tried to post, but it got all screwed up and it was a boring post anyway, somehow it ended up somewhere else and was all very confusing. i'm too tired to re-do it or care.
did anyone else see Jen Garner slip at the Oscars? Why do i think that was so funny? Seriously though, how mortifying would that be? She pulled it off ok i guess....at least she didn't totally biff it.

Great trip and Good news

Well I made it back to Seattle after a fabulous trip to Portland and Eugene. Last night was absolute madness! a crazed knitting party at Andie and Rick's. The crafty blog ring was mostly present in the flesh! With appearances by Pulpshopgirl, Sierra, and Kungfuramone! (See links for more pics and alternate accounts of the evening!)

the knitting circle

heather, trip and andie being cute

here's rick modeling Pulpshopgirl's infamous giant mitten!

I got home and got a call with great news from EvilCat......her and kamari got me on their girls wrestling team, the Westward Ho's! I'm to be Kamari's tag team partner. I'm really really excited about this. I really hope it happens! 'Cause I can throw down a DDT, and have been dieing to flex my pythons in the squared circle.....

and finally, here's rosie looking cute in a baby hat!

Perfect Timing

Today was a day of perfect timing. One of those rare days when everything seems to go right. Pulpshopgirl and I got out of Portland without a hitch, after a tasty breakfast and a stop at the coffee shop. We made incredible time down the I-5 stretch. I made it to all the places I wanted to go and saw all the people I wanted to see. At least, for today. I even parked at a 24 minute meter that was out of order, so I stayed parked there for hours. It was great.

Knitting Craftermath

I made a leg warmer. I will eventually make a second. It is mighty thick and warm, and not the most attractive really. I think maybe stockinette stitch in between the ribbing would have been prettier than seed stitch. Pulpshopgirl suggested stockinette, but did I listen? No, I wanted to try seed stitch.
We have been crafting al day, much knitting has happened. and some watching of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Good times, good times!

fueled by espresso

Today was one of the busiest days I've ever seen at the coffee kiosk! at one point we had 23 customers in 20 minutes. And there are only 2 of us.....it was madness! No Odwalla boy today, but my favorite customer crush came in and chatted with me for a good while.
Well, my car is almost packed. I have a ridiculous amount of stuff for just one person and one dog for 4 nights......but I gotta have my knitting and my computer! Essentials. and of course an assortment of cameras and film.
K, i gott jet.....but I'll leave you with this:

KNITTED ZOMBIES!
my life will be complete when i can make knitted zombies. I LOVE zombies. (thanks, andie!)
