mimes vs. plate spinners

Anatomist and I had a heated discussion this evening about which sucks more: mimes or plate spinners. She's voting for plate spinners as "the bottome of the totem pole." Personally, i think mimes are worse. they're just creepier and more annoying....and miming looks easy. it may not be as easy as it looks, but it looks stupid anyway, so who cares? But plate spinning.....that looks hard. So therefore, i stand behind my belief that plate spinning takes more skill and mimes just suck. but I want to know what everyone else thinks! vote for who sucks more......mimes, or plate spinners?

good times

This weekend was spent having grand ol' times at Evilcat's place. We hung out, drank beers, talked 'bout wrasslin', watched a bit of wrasslin', did a bit of wrasslin'.
going over there is like a field trip for Rosie. Theres a big grassy yard to roll in, and people to play with!

I'll spare y'all the visuals. But I printed the most disturbing roll of film I have ever printed. I think that is saying a lot, considering the time I have spent in the mini lab industry. I printed a roll of film that was almost entirely of one dudes nutsack. There were a few normal pics interspersed among the nutsacks. You know, "standing in the garden." or "Sitting in the easy chair." I thought that maybe it was a before and after of nutsack implants or something. It was very disturbing and confusing. Then I thought maybe this guy had just never taken a mirror to check out that region. After I packaged up the order, (double prints + CD), I took it to my boss and coworker, slapped it on the counter and said "I deserve a bonus for printing this". Turns out it was a "legal issue", it was an "injury". They asked if he was missing anything, I said it was more like an extra something at one point. I am permanently traumatized.

it's working

well the remote training collar seems to be doing its job. We went on a very long walk yesterday down to Greenlake and back. Rosie was a very good loose leash walker. once we got to the lake there were lots of kids and dogs and people on rolelrbladdes and skateboards. But she was so SO good! She stayed with me, paid attention, and walked right by other dogs, kids and people without any lunging. On our way back from the lake we even walked right past a very small dog that headed towards her first, and i did have to turn the collar up a bit for that one, but she made it right past the wee dog without any chomping or anything! It was AMAZING.
i had a really great wrestling practice this evening! my first one in the ring. we worked out some good stuff. Tom showed us some good moves, one that is totally awesome involves some hip flippin'. It's awesome that our manager wrestled in high school! Churpa gets to toss me around a lot. It's pretty fun. I sure go flying! and I get to DDT her, so I'm happy.

not so bad after all

Last night after a little bit of liquid courage I got around to trying out the shock collar on myself, and on some friends! Thanks y'all, that was a good time! I feel much much better now about putting it on Rosie. It's not so bad after all! it feels weird, not exactly pleasant, but it doesn't HURT. I see why she would jump and why she would respond. She's been much better behaved even without the collar on today. It's so so SO exciting. I am looking forward to working with her a whole lot more! When I got back home today our new "Remote Training" collar and transmitter were waiting for us. I plugged 'em in to charge, and I've been reading all the little booklets. I probably won't stop talking about this for a long long time. Like I don't already just post about my dog.......now hopefully it will be better news! I am just so excited about the possibilities! and so relieved that this may be the solution to her behavior problems!
This was a great weekend. not just because of the Rosie miracle. I had a great time in Eugene! It was crazy busy and hectic, but an all around fabulous time!

the hardest thing ever

I'm down in Eugene, and got to meet R!'s uncle, the DogTrainer. I'm borrowing a shock collar from Andie's dad, and we're working on some discipline. Rosie is "Learning to be a citizen." It's working. I have to admit the results were pretty instantaneous; coming when called, even with other dogs around and walking with me off leash right past other dogs. It's phenomenal. but shocking her is the hardest thing i've ever done. little jumps and little yelps are like sharp knives in my heart. this is so so hard. i had to cover my eyes only once, and i've only cried a little bit. i"m trying to reassure myself that having her maul another dog or get mauled by one, or even worse, get ahold of a child, would be a whole whole lot worse.

Big D and I had a pic-nic at the beach today. we took Rosie, so we didn't go on the actual beach. Rosie barked at everything, other dogs, scuba divers, old ladies, and especially birds. I liked watching the sailboats. though sometimes i got really scared 'cause they SO looked like they were going to tip over.



I posted my pinhole picture on the pinhole day website. it's of rosie and my yard flamingos. they're blurs of pretty color.

one other thing that REALLY pissed me off this evening, the most obnoxious commercial about HPV. check out tell-someone.hpv.com. HPV causes cervical cancer? who'da thunk it? so get pap tests. yeah......but don't mention ANYTHING about vaccines for HPV that are still unavailable due to opposition mostly from the religious right. 'cause if we ain't gonna get cancer from sex we might just go and have it more. check out this article, Virginity or Death. It's a good one......

homesick

today was my day off....I made a deal with myself that I would schedule at least one day off a week. It wasn't easy, but I managed it this week. so I slept in, and got up around 10 to let Rosie out. i opened the door to a gorgeous sunny day. So i put on a bikini, and lay out on my porch for about 4 hours. i just lounged and read and soaked up some rays. I didn't get ANYTHING actually "done" today. I had planned on laundry and cleaning and working on "stuff". but doing nothing was so fabulous. It was like my own mini sunny vacation. After the sun moved on a ways and my porch was getting too shady I decided to take rosie on a walk through carkeek park to the beach. I had been thinking about the ocean and about the Oregon coast. I miss it. So i thought I should go to the beach here, since, hell, its within walking distance! The forest in carkeek park reminded me of the forest near my parents house in Eugene, and how much I loved growing up in those woods. when we got to the water I was reminded by many signs that dogs are not allowed on beaches in seattle, subject to $500 fines. I had forgotten that, and I was so disappointed. No walking on the sand for Rosie and I. I sat on a bench and watched the windsurfers for a bit before heading back. I realized I'm quite homesick, and I miss Oregon.

pinhole day!

Today is pinhole day! yesterday I turned this re-usable disposable camera into a pinhole camera. It works pretty well, I just took out the "lens" and replaced it with a pinhole, and I took out the plastic piece that acts as a shutter. It was pretty easy, once I figured out that I needed to keep the shutter button mechanism so that the advance wheel and exposure counter still worked.

I used a nail to make the hole, which i think is too big, so thats probably why they're so blurry. but it also makes for shorter exposures. I took more shots today that I'll process tomorrow to post on the pinhole day website.
I'm considering taking it apart again and putting in a smaller pinhole. or maybe I'll just make another one......

goin' gray

I was hanging out with Big D and Khya, Khya was talking about her gray hairs and I said I didn't think I had any. Then about 30 seconds later, Khya said "hang on!" and tugged on hair on the top of my head. I went in and looked in a mirror, Sho'nuff! a white white hair, sticking right out of the top of my head.

one is never enough

one day off all by its lonesome just isn't enough. It was a nice day though, even if I didn't get much crossed off my to-do list. I really need to do laundry, but I just wasn't up for it. I stayed up late last night watching Buffy and knitting, and then I slept in this morning. It's been too long since I could sleep in. I went to thai food for lunch with Khya, which was fun. We went to a place in ballard that I can't remember the name of. they had this amazing appetizer where they bring out all these littls dishes with things in them, onions, ginger, peanuts, chiles, tiny lime slices, coconut, and you wrapt it all up in leaves and put tasty sauce on it. they were amazing! and their phad kee mao rocked too.
I took rosie to the park to play frisbee today. she was very well behaved. i put her on a big long leash and let her drag it around, so she can run after the frisbee but i can stil catch her if i have to. there were other dogs walking by, and kids on skateboards, and she didn't even care, just kept on chasing the frisbee and bringing it back. and then some guys brought their dog over to play frisbee, and she chased that dog for awhile. but she didn't try to fight him! even when he tried to mount her! AND she came when i called. My little girl is growing up!

busy busy bee

oh so busy, with the worky and the birthdays and the doing of stuff. I feel like I have lots to write about, and nothing all at the same time.
I've been trying to eat Raw. I need a better raw cookbook, or rather, non-cookbook. I am interested in trying it to a certain degree, but I don't think I could be hardcore about it. For one thing, how do other people ever have you over to feed you? what the hell do you tell them? "make me a salad?" It's hard enough already being vegetarian and not liking potatos. But on my own I'm giving it a half-try. I know I won't go all the way with it, because i'd have to give up beer, and coffee, and probably pop corn which would REALLY not happen. and I hate the idea of never eating food that is really hot. Like soup. Some cold soups are ok, but most are not.

long day off

It's been a busy day. I got up bright and early to drop Rosie off at the vet. When she was a puppy she had a little eyelash growing inside her eye, and it gave her a weepy eye. they plucked it and cauterized it, but it seemed to have come back. Her eye was weepy again and last week she kept rubbing at it. So I took her in. $175 later, her vaccines are updated and her toenails are trimmed, but they didn't find anything in her eye. "It must have fallen out." Well thats great. Hopefully it won't bother her anymore, and hopefully I will never again pay $175 for stuff that would normally be $30. Though this isn't the first time, and probably won't be the last either.
today I got the wrong Buffy DVD from Blockbuster AGAIN.....it must have been en route before i deleted all the other seasons from my qeue. but I also got something RAD in the mail that made me feel better:


Aubry, my "big" sister (not older, just taller) sent me presents! I love them! It totally made my day. The picture doesn't do the tank top justice, the colors are really amazing. there are lots of different colors in each skull. Not only is the tank top awesome, but the dinosaur pen.....reminds me of something....oh yeah! ME!

exhaustion and frustration

exhaustion: finished day 8 of working.....one more day until i have a day off. It was going ok until today, i have been so sluggish and tired. i got home and just couldn't go to craft night. i felt too zombified. I'm very disappointed, I even made cookies, but i had to go to bed. I went and sorta half slept for over an hour. i feel better, sort of, but i'm going back to bed real soon.
frustration: for some reason blockbuster online is sending me my dvds out of order. NOT ok when you're on season 3 of Buffy, and they send you season 4. I got another DVD today, expecting the right one, and again it was season 4. WTF? I've been emailing them, but of course they're incredibly not helfpful. "Disable your cookies" " use internet explorer" "delete all the other seasons from your qeue" or "add them as a set" which I DID, dammit! I miss netflix.......but I really like my blockbuster in store coupons. crapholes. oh the disappointment of receiving the wrong Buffy DVD's.......

jobbie jobs

Theres a little game I like to play called "How many jobs can Cori have?" Sure, I've been complaining about working too much, but what's one more job? Anyway, I've sorta been offered a temp job, 6 weeks, $12/hr, doing photoshop and data entry website work for an online wine distributor. It sounds awesome, pays better than the other 2 jobs and is more along the lines of what I want to be doing, photo editing/photoshop/post production work. So far I have no info about what the hours are, whether its part time/flexible or full time. I am determined to do it either way, but I'm not sure if i will be able to swing it. I guess I'll jsut have to wait and talk to my bosses when I get more info. i probably won't hear back from the temp people until Monday, so I have all weekend to stress about it.
Well, thanks to Ransom my bike dilemma has been resolved. He said "Don't put money into that bike!" or something along those lines. So I called the bike guys at Second Ascent and re-negotiated. The guy I talked to this time was VERY helpful, he said that its not really necessary to replace the rims and stuff, but he will do a good thorough tune-up, and things should work much better for more like $30, which is way way better than $150. This way I can still ride it and not die, since my commute is quite short anyway, and I probably won't ride in the rain too much. (which means, in Seattle, i may never ride....) But that was a big relief. And I don't have to butcher my bike. Thanks, Ransom! I just really needed someone to tell me not to do it. I'll be saving my pennies for a Bianchi.......
