gunfight anniversary

Yesterday was the 125th anniversary of the Gunfight at the OK Corral. You know.... the one in Tombstone AZ with Wyatt and the other Earps, Doc Holliday, and the Clantons. Last summer Josh was living in AZ and I went to visit and we went to Tombstone. It was a grand ol' time, with rotating dioramas narrated by Vincent Price and gunfight re-enactments. So to commemorate the anniversary of the shootout Josh and I rented Tombstone. You know, the one with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer. There are a lot of notable actors in that film. Kurt Russell is always fabulous of course, and Val Kilmer as pale sweaty dieing Doc Holliday, well I think that may be the perforamance of his lifetime. Really his finest work. other notables: Billy Zane, Jason Priestley, Terry O'Quinn, Bill Paxton, I could go on and on. But the real stars of that movie are the mustaches.

hereditary lung collapses?

Some of you whom I have known for a longer period of time may remember when my lung collapsed. I think it was late summer or fall of 2001. Anyway, today my youngest brother Braden who is 17 went to the doctor and found that his lung was partially collapsed! It's crazy. Same thing happened to him that happened to me. We've got collapsable lungs in my family. Jealous?

jumping bean dog

We - AL, DeerPee, SadieFur and myself - went hiking in Forest Park today. we hiked about 8 miles. It's an amazing park, 5,000 acres! and lots and lots of trails. It was lovely.

AL was making Rosie jump for a stick

here's the best jump for last!

here's a normal one of Rosie to remind everyone how cute she is. and she doens't always look like a crazy flying demon dog.

DeerPee and i were very excited when Rosie and Sadie said hello to each other and didn't fight. Last time the two of them were together they got in quite a tussle. SadieFur has problems with other dogs too, so we tried the training collar on her. It was amazing! it only took about two dogs going past for her to stop, sit, and look the other way. she would hide behind DeerPee's knees. Usually she barks and lunges.

myspace is weird

everybody knows that myspace is weird. recently i got a message from a friend from high school who i hadn't seen since shortly after. that was cool. then i got some messages from random dudes, one who had read my blog and wanted to tell me he'd been to yellowstone too. then another guy said i was a shining example of genetic perfection. thanks.... ok. but the cool and weird one i got recently was from The Beautiful South, who are one of my very favorite brit pop bands. it said:
Hi h.c.

I notice both you and your friend Aubrina like our band.
So just to let you know that next month we're playing in America for the first time in 6 or 7 years. I realize the shows are a long way from Portland but you never know....

Cheers
Sean

Holy Jeez, says I. Sean is the bass player. So what do they do, sit around and look up people in the states on myspace who like them? damn. weird. I wish wish wish I could go see them in SanFrancisco Nov.11.

in other news: my new job is weird, but easy. it's been pretty slow, I had one day of training and then yesterday i closed by myself. I sat around and knit and read quite a bit. They seem really disorganized which makes me really nervous. If only this job paid a more livable wage, it would be totally fabulous. I like getting paid to knit. But tips suck. I made about $3.50 in tips yesterday. and my schedule kind of sucks, I close 3 days a week so I'm there until 9:30, and then i work both sat. and sun. I like not having to get up super early, but I hate waiting around all day before going to work. But hey, I've got a job! It will pay the most important bills and I figured out when and where the food banks are. It's better than no job and all in all it's not an awful job. So I'm still looking for something more lucrative and hopefully something will come my way. keep up the black rituals, KFR.

i got a job

i'm a knitting barista, starting tomorrow.

coffee and knitting

Knitters check out the pattern for knit hair! (thanks, khya!) speaking of knitting, I had an interview this morning at a yarn shop and cafe. for a barista. the lady was really nice, and she said she also needs a photographer to start their website. so that might be agood two for one.......we'll see. the barista position is only part time really and doesn't pay much, plus tips suck because the cafe is pretty slow. REI was a total bust, I went and checked back today. they said there were just too many people that had more experience than me, and to try back in April.......
now I'm going to make some coffee, waste time on the internet, maybe go to Trader Joes to get some herbs for some soup I want to make........

So-vee day

Yesterday AL and I went out to Sauvie Island. We hiked on out to Warrior Rock Lighthouse at the northern end. It's hike #1 in the 100 Hikes in Northwest Oregon book. I want to do all 100. We also went out to The Pumpkin Patch and bought pumpkins. we even took a hayride and picked the pumpkins out of the great big muddy field. We were so dirty by the time we got home, and Rosei rolled in something stinky so she smelled kind of like dead fish. or maybe that was just from swimming in the Columbia.

REI Hiring Clinic Madhouse

130 people for 25 jobs.
I got up at 7 and rode my bike downtown with a hangover for a 10 minute interview.
I also got a rejection letter from Costco. Maybe I'm overqualified to be a cart pusher.

settling in

I am loving my new home. It's very cozy and comfortable. here are some pictures!
I found my sheets and my pretty princess pink satin beaded dust ruffle. now my bed is complete! I also put up my grand canyon map, so my room is coming along quite well.

this is the view of the backard from my room. There's a giant fig tree back there.

from my other window I can lean out and pick apples!

I put my Pet Shop Boys in my closet. They look down and guide my fashion choices. See Neil's all "You're actually gonna wear that?" and Chris is like "I think she can pull it off."

Here's our upstairs tv room and craft room in progress. it's a fabulous hideaway..... this is where I will be all winter. watching Buffy and knitting.

Rosie in the living room. I love our pink walls. duh.

I borrowed my parents dehydrator, I've been dehydrating figs and apples! they're delicious. I bought an Apple Mate. It peels slices and cores! It is a truly fabulous invention. Up there with the bicycle and the modern combustion engine.

I also made an apple pie yesterday.

one long weird day

This morning I met up with a fellow who owns a pool store. pool as in billiards, not as in swimming. Then for most of the day I went pool table shopping. SECRET shopping. I drove to Troutdale, got very lost in Gresham, and hung out a lot in Clackamas. Now I know a bit about pool tables. I pretended I was going to buy one for my boyfriend for Christmas. wow. that's prety far from the truth. It was weird at first, but then it was kind of fun. and they're paying me $30 a shop. I have about 4 to do tomorrow, one in vancouver, and the rest on the west side of town. In the middle of this I also had an interview at the Clackamas Costco. For being a box girl. and a cart pusher. part time. I also saw the aftermath of a rather heinous accident where a big truck was tipped over in a 7-11 parking lot and looked like it had maybe slid into the light post. It was pretty gnarly, and all of 82nd heading north was very backed up for a long time. so in avoiding that on my way home I ended up taking a very round about way home and went to Sellwood. Sellwood is very cute, as is Troutdale. Gresham sucks a whole lot and I hope I never have to go back there.

I can't think of a title worthy of this image

Goodwill tragedies

I saw a very sad thing at the Goodwill today........an orange lid for a Le Creuset tea pot and no tea pot to go with it.After searching high and low for the orange tea pot that somewhere someday must have existed for the lid, AL pointed out that the lid was priced all alone. So the lid must have made it to the Goodwill on its own. It was horrendously depressing, because what a glory find that would have been.
I bought a giant bright orange enamel baking pan to make up for the pain.

i gotta wonder

I am sitting in my bed at half past midnight wearing a headlamp for light while applying for odd jobs (temp retail research and focus group market research) and supposedly real jobs (catering barista, retail positions) on craigslist. i gotta wonder about the jobs being posted on craigslist on a sunday, late night on a sunday, and about myself for being the person who applies for jobs during the middle of the night on a sunday night now monday morning. do you think they get those emails and think "what the hell kind of person sends job emails out at midnight?" well, the kind that hasn't found her light bulbs and is typing by the light of her head lamp. i have a lamp next to my bed and i just KNOW i have light bulbs packed for it somewhere. I have a lot of things yet to be found in the unpacking. like where the hell are all my sheets? I found one set. but I can't find my flamingo sheets or my pink satin beaded dust ruffle.

first Portland bike excursion

AL and i rode downtown today. I have this little freebie pocket bike route map, and while it is helpful, we got thrown off the route multiple times because ALL of portland is under construction. I mean, holy jeez city planners, can't you do one road at a time instead of the whole damn city? anyway, we got downtown eventually and had lunch at Bridgeport with SS and some of her co-workers. Then she gave us a tour of her place of employment where they "grow trade show solutions." It's quite impressive and now we both want to work there. They have enormous printer thingies. We also both applied at Pro Photo, and I applied at The North Face. My dad would be SO excited if i got a job at North Face. on our way back we got discombobulated again and took a bit of a roundabout way home. I'm tired now and all i want to do now is sit around and watch Buffy. I'm never going to finish unpacking.

I applied at Hooters

I'm on the job hunt. Today i rode my new bike to Trader Joe's (about 6 blocks from my house) and filled out an application. I also emailed a resume and a picture to Hooters. I would be willing to wear a tight tank top and a push up bra to serve beer and hot wings to red necks for $13.25/hr + tips. I figured hell, i was willing to wrestle in a similar outfit in front of a bunch of people for free.

I live in Portland.

AL and I spent our first night at our new home yesterday! we moved all my shite from Pulpshopgirl's garage over to the new digs. (well, ALMOST all of it. there are a few items i still have to pick up) Now most of my stuff is in a pile of boxes on our back patio. yes, it's a covered patio. this morning i set up the wireless, and proceeded to waste time on the internet for most of the day. i was slightly productive in the way of address changing though. and I may have a couple of job leads, though I want to hold out for REI........the Trader Joes about 6 blocks from our house is hiring.

i also want to draw everyone's attention to a special new blogger......drumroll........zaza groomech. oh yeah, we're in trouble now!
